The Great Commission and Evangelism

The Great Commission

Matthew 28:19-20New King James Version (NKJV)

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

The definition of evangelism: is the practice of sharing the christian gospel.

In Matthew 28:19 to 20 we have what is commonly known as The Great Commission. As examine is scriptures, the following reasons are given for evangelism:

1) There is a command for us to go evangelism. we are to do the movement , not simply wait upon God to move us.

2) Make disciples of Jesus and the commission means, to disciple people groups, whatever their race and gender, God expects the body of christ to reach them.

3)Baptising them-community. This is not a formula, neither is it an option it is a command. This ensures they are part of the body of Christ. it is their first step towards discipleship, but also highlights their need to be part of a local church.

4) Teaching them everything I have commanded you - process. This involves commitment does the new believers, ensure they are discipled to become responsible become responsible members of the body of Christ.

5) I am with you always - partnership. we can not fulfil this commission in our own strength. This speaks for our need for Jesus and His partnership with us when we commit to fulfilling His commission for our lives.
